Om Puri

The Indian film industry has many talented actors, who have proved their versatility again and again, actor Om Puri can easily be listed in one of them. Om Puri is an Indian actor with extraordinary acting skills. Om Puri acts in both commercial which is also called mainstream Indian film and also in art films. Puri was born on 18th October, 1950 in Ambala, in Punjab, India. He has remained a graduate of the ‘Film and Television Institute of India’ and also the 1973 alumnus of National School of Drama which is situated in Dehli. Om Puri and Naseeruddin Shah have been classmates in the National School of Drama. Other than Indian films, Om Puri has also appeared in American and British films.

In the year 1956, Om Puri made his debut with the film ‘Ghashiram Kotwal’ which was based on a Marathi play with the same name. Puri is mostly known for playing unconventional roles which includes films like: Aakrosh’ in 1982, which was directed by Govind Nihalani, ‘Ardh Satya’ in 1982, the movie was also directed by Govind Nihalani and the much acclaimed Gulzar directed ‘Maachis’ in 1996. Om Puri received his National Award in the best actor category for the film ‘Ardh Satya’. His international projects include ‘My Son the Fanatic’, ‘City of Joy’, ‘Patrick Swayze: Wolf’ where he starred along with Jack Nicholson and ‘The Ghost and the Darkness’, he has done a cameo in Richard Attenborough directed ‘Gandhi’. He portrayed with brilliance the comic character in ‘Chachi 420’. Om Puri is a great actor.

Anita Hassanandani aka Natassha

Anita Hassanandani better known as Natassha is a model, television actress and also a film actress of the Indian film industry. Anita has been the model for popular advertisement campaigns like ‘Sunsilk’, ‘Boroplus’ and many other well known brands. Her acting career started as a television actress. Ekta Kapoor chose her for the lead role in the serial ‘Kabhi Sautan Khabie Saheli’. This serial was very much successful and opened the doors for more offers for Anita or Natassha. She made her debut with the horror film ‘Kucch To Hai’, the film was produced by Balaji Telefilms. In this film, she got the opportunity to star with actors like Rishi Kapoor, Jitendra and Tusshar Kapoor and Esha Deol who were in the lead roles.
The other popular serial where Natassha has worked was ‘Kavyanjali’, where she played the lead role of a middle class girl marrying a business tycoon. Other than acting in mainstream Hindi movies and popular serials, Natassha has also appeared in many regional movies like Telegu, Tamil and Kannad movies. She has mainly acted in movies under the Balaji productions include a horror flick ‘Krishna Cottage’ where she was paired opposite Sohail Khan and the movie mainly included television actors, ‘Koi Aap Sa’ which was released in the year 2005, here she was paired opposite Aftab Shivdashani, and ‘Yeh Dil’ which was remake of a Telegu hit ‘Nuvvu Mennu’, in this film she was paired opposite Tusshar Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor’s brother. Her forthcoming film is ‘Ek Se Bure Do’ opposite Arshad Warsi.

Urmila Matondkar

One of the most popular Indian actress also known for essaying eccentric and offbeat characters is Urmila Matondkar. This Maharastrian actress was born on February 4, 1974 and a popular awards winning actress of Bollywood. She started her career as a child artist. The films where she has appeared as a child artist are many but she mostly known as the child ‘Pinky’ in Shekhar Kapoor’s ‘Masoom’ which is an adaptation of Erich Segal’s ‘Man, Woman and Child’. Her first film as an adult was ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’ which was released in the year 1989. Her collaboration with the famous filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma has given some memorable films of the recent times.

Her first film under Ram Gopal Verma’s direction was ‘Antham’ which was in Telegu, later it was dubbed as ‘Drohi’ in Hindi which was released in 1992. The film ‘Rangeela’ which was released in 1995 under the direction of Ram Gopal Verma took Urmila Matondkar’s career to new great heights. In this film Urmila shared her screen space with Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff. Her other films under the Ram Gopal Verma’s direction include ‘Daud’ , ‘Satya’, ‘Kaun’ , ‘Mast’ , ‘Jungle’ , ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’ , ‘Bhoot’ and more. Urmila’s performance in ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’ as an obsessive lover was very much appreciated and so was her performance as the ghost possessed woman in the film ‘Bhoot. She has worked in the critically acclaimed movie ‘Pinjar’ and one directed by Khalid Mohammad ‘Tehzeeb’ along with Shabana Azmi. Urmila Matondkar was recently seen as judge of a popular television reality show.

Shilpa Shetty: Indian Queen

Born on July 8,1975, Shilpa Shetty is an actor of the popular Hindi films and is also a model. At the age of 16, Shilpa stared her career as a model for Limca. In the year 1993, she made her debut with the movie ‘Baazigar’ which was directed by Abbas-Mastan. The film was a huge hit; it starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the leads. Though Shilpa played the role of a supporting actress, her performance was well appreciated.

Her first film where she played the lead role was ‘Aag’ which came in the year 1994. Shilpa has acted in as many as fifty films in Hindi Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language. In the year 2000, came ‘Dhaadkan’ which had Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in the lead role. In this film, Shilpa had done a commendable role. ‘Phir Milenege’ which was released in 2004, Shilpa portrayed a AIDS affected patient for which she won many accolades.

Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is also in films and both of them have starred together in the movie ‘Fareb’. Shilpa is more famous for her dancing skills and her well-maintained body. Shilpa Shetty claimed to fame when she won the much controversial ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, a reality TV show that comes on British television. Shilpa has appeared in the multi-starrer movie ‘Life in a Metro’ which was released in 2007. The famous Anurag Basu directed this movie. Shilpa’s performance in the movie received positive reviews thus reestablishing her place in Bollywood.

Actor-Director Aamir Khan

One of the most talented and versatile actors of the Indian film industry in the recent years is Aamir Khan. He appeared in front camera for the first time with the film ‘Yaadon Ki Barat’ in 1973, it was directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain and Aamir appeared as a child actor in the film. Aamir’s father TAhir Hussian is a producer and his brother Faisal Khan is also an actor. Both of them have acted together in the film ‘Mela’. Aamir received his first commercial success with his cousin Mansoor Khan’s film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ in 1988; this was his debut film and was paired opposite the then newcomer Juhi Chawla. The film fetched him ‘Filmfare Best Male Debut Award’.

Aamir Khan received his first Filmfare award in the best actor category in 1997, for the film ‘Raja Hindustani’. Aamir has given the audiences some of the memorable films of al times like ‘Lagaan’ , ‘Dil Chata Hai’ , ‘Rang De Basanti’ and few more. His other commendable films are ‘Dil’, ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke’ , ‘Rangeela’ , ‘Ghulam’ , ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikhandar’ and many more. For the periodic film ‘Lagaan’ which was produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Asutosh Gowariakar, Aamir won his ‘National Award’ for the best actor. ‘Lagaan’ was the third Hindi language film to be nominated for the ‘Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film’. Aamir Khan turned a director with the film ‘Taare Zameen par’ which was released in 2007 and was a huge hit.

Arbaaz Khan

Arbaaz Khan, the younger brother of film star Salman Khan is an actor who comes in Indian movies. Arbaaz was born in Mumbai on 4th August in the year 1967. Arbaaz Khan hails from a family, which has been in the Indian film industry for years. He is the son of the famous scriptwriter Salim Khan. In the year 1996, Arbaaz made his debut in films with the film ‘Darrar’, he shared his screen space with noted actors like Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor. Arbaaz Khan gave a brilliant negative performance for which he received the ‘Filmfare Best Villain Award. This 5’ 10 actor has appeared in many films but most of his films as solo actor did not fare well. Arbaaz is a fitness freak who maintains a healthy diet to remain fit. His wife Malliaka Arora Khan is well known item dancer of Bollywood. He has appeared onscreen with his elder brother Salman Khan in films like ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ in 1998 and ‘Garv : Pride and Honour’ in 2004 and ‘Hello Brother’ in 1999. In the film ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ , Arbaaz played the elder brother of the female lead Kajol, who was paired opposite Salman Khan. His performance as an angry and tough brother was well received. In the film ‘Qayamat : City Under Threat’ , Arbaaz Khan again played a negative character which was successful at the box office. His other note worthy releases are ‘Hulchul’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ , ‘Malamaal Weekly’ and ‘Bhagam Bhag’.

Sohail Khan

The younger brother of Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, started his career as a film producer and director and then he landed in acting in movies. Sohail was born on December 20, 1970 to a family who has been connected with the film industry for generations. Salim Khan who is Sohail’s father is a successful scriptwriter and his stepmother who is Helen is a popular dancer of yesteryear. His elder brothers Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan are popular Bollywood actors. He made his directorial debut with the film ‘Auzaar’ in 1997, which had his brother Salman Khan in the lead. In the year 1998, Sohail directed his both elder brothers Salman and Arbaaz in the movie ‘Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’ and in 1999 ‘Hello Brother’. Sohail’s first movie as a leading actor was ‘Maine DIl Tuhjko Diya’ which was released in 2002. The film was directed, produced and written by him. The film was big box office failure. In fact most of Sohail’s movies have remained box office failures. His first hit was ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ in the year 2005 with brother Salman. Here he played the supporting actor and was paired opposite Katrina Kaif. Sohail has also written and produced the multi-starrer ‘Fight Club- Members Only’ which did not fare well at the box office. The film ‘Aryan’ which was based on boxing had a delayed release, his performance in the film was well received. His 2007 release was ‘Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love’. Sohail Khan produced ‘Partner’ which was huge box office hit.
