Saif Ali Khan: ‘Laangda Tyagi’

Saif Ali Khan, son of the former captain of the Indian cricket team, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and of the veteran yesteryear actress Sharmila Tagore, is one of the most popular actors of Bollywood. He belongs to the well known family of the Nawabs of Pataudi. Saif was born on August 16 in the year 1970 he was admitted to the Lockers Park Prep School and then he joined Winchester College. He has two sisters Soha Ali Khan and Saba Ali Khan, the former is a popular actress of Bollywood films. Saif Ali Khan made his debut in Hindi films with the movie ‘Parampara’ in 1992. His next film came in the year 1993, ‘Aashiq Awara’ for which he won the ‘Filmfare Best Male Debut Award’. In 1994, came Saif’s breakthrough role in the movie ‘Yeh Dillagi’ where he shared his screen space with Askhay Kumar and Kajol. This was his first major hit. Then Saif went on to act in many films though most of them were unsuccessful.

Saif Ali Khan career got a great boost with the film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ that came in the year 2001. The movie was directed by the well known film maker ‘Farhan Akhtar’. The movie focused on the relationship between three friends played by Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Khanna and Aamir Khan. His most memorable performance till date was as ‘Laangda Tyagi’ in Vishal Bharadwaj directed movie ‘Omkara’. This movie was an adaptation of the drama ‘Othello’, written by Shakespeare. He has given some breathtaking performance in this film. Saif Ali Khan has surely carved a niche for himself. Good going Saif !

Kay Kay Menon: Outstanding!

Kay Kay Menon is a very talented actor who has been acting in the Indian cinema for quite a while, now. He was raised in Ambarnath, Pune, Maharastra. He is an MBA and ahs done specialization in marketing from the B-school PUMBA (DMS, Pune University). He began his acting career with theatre and gradually started acting in television and finally opted for films. In the year 1995, Kay Kay made his debut with the movie ‘Naseem’. The film was followed by ‘Bhopal Express’ which came in the year 1999.

It was with the film ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ which was directed by Sudhir Mishra, that Kay Kay got recognized as an actor. He was very much appreciated together with the newcomers ‘Shiney Ahuja’ and ‘Chitrangada Singh’ who were also there in the film. Kay Kay hasd has shared his screen with Amitabh Bachchan in the films: ‘Deewar’ which came in 2004, was a flop but his acting was appreciated and ‘Sarkar’ in 2005, where he played the eldest son of Amitabh Bachchan. His role in the movie was that of a hot-tempered person which he had portrayed very well. The other notable movies of Kay Kay include: ‘Corporate’ for which he received much acclaim, ‘Black Friday’ where he played the role of DCP Rakesh Maria and was widely appreciated for his performance. This movie was based on the book by journalist S Hussain Zaidi on the 1993 Bombay Bomb Blasts. In the film ‘Life in a Metro’ which was released last year , Kay Kay Menon has given an outstanding performance.

Dino Morea: The stud!

Dino Morea was born to Indian mother and an Italian father. He has remained a supermodel and was very much popular and renowned as a model. Before coming into films, he has appeared in a number of advertisements of which his advertisement of the ‘Live in Jeans’ was the most successful. He has even appeared in a controversial advertisement of ‘Calida’ with Bipasa Basu, the popular actress of Bollywood. This Sagittarian is not short of confidence; he has walked the ramp for many shows and has even won the ‘Gladrags Manhunt’ contest. He has spent 11 years of his life in Italy. His first on screen appearance in a film was ‘Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’ opposite Rinkie Khanna, the youngest daughter of Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia. The film came in the year 1999 was a flop, but Dino Morea had won many female fans by then. Since this film, Dino has appeared in numerous Bollywood productions, which include: ‘Sssshhh’ where he was paired opposite Tannisha Mukherjee, daughter of Tanuja and also sister of Kajol, ‘Aksar’ where he appeared along with Emraan Hashmi, ‘Baaz: A Bird in Danzer’ opposite Karisma Kapoor. Rahul Bose

Rahul Bose: Mainstream or art house ?
Rahul Bose who is a skilled actor of Indian cinema is a social activist and also a rugby player and represents the Indian team. He fell in love with theatre ever since he started acting at the age of six, the n he had played a lead role in his school play, ‘Tom, the Piper’s Son’. As his acting grew with him, he played the lead role in Tim Murari’s ‘The Square Circle’ at the Leicester Haymarket in England. Rahul Bose was born on July 27, 1967, he has spent his childhood in Kolkata, later moved to Mumbai with his family. He was a student of the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and has done his graduation form Sydenham College.

‘English, August’ which was directed by Dev Benegal was his first film. Rahul Bose is considered as one of the most versatile and natural actors of Indian films. Before coming into films, Rahul has remained an advertising copywriter, worked for the Rediffusion advertising agency in Mumbai. For the film ‘Split Wide Open’ Rahul won the Best Actor at the Singapore Film Festival. His almost all films are excellent and his performance in every film of his is appreciated. The films where he has given a commendable performance are Mr. And Mrs. Iyer, and ‘Jhankaar Beats’, these are all international awards-winning films, ‘Chameli’, ‘Everybody Says I am Fine’ for which he won the ‘John Schlesinger Award – Honorable Mention’. He has been called by the ‘Time’ magazine ‘the superstar of Indian art house cinema’.

A promising Kunal Khemu

One of the most promising upcoming actors of Bollywood is definitely Kunal Khemu. Kunal who was born on 25th May, 1983 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir was a popular child artist. Kunal was student of Niranjanlal Dalmia High School and had graduated from Narsee Monjee College in Mumbai. His childhood was spent in Mira Road which is a suburb outside Mumbai. Kunal was both good at studies and at soprts.
Kuanl started his acting career in 1987 as child artist in the television serial ‘Gul Gulshan Gulfam’. Later on, Kunal appeared in films and his first film was ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke’ which came in the year 1993. In this 93 superhit, Kunal appeared as a child artist and he played the role of nephew of the lead actor Aamir Khan. He has done a number of films as a child actor, the popular one include ‘Raja Hindustani’ in 1996 again with Aamir Khan and Karisma Kapoor and ‘Zakhm’ which was released in1998, here he played the young Ajay Devgan. For the latter one, Kunal had received praises by both the audiences and the critics. His debut movie as a leading actor was ‘Kalyug’ which came in the year 2005.
The film was both critically and commercially successful. The movie was directed by Mohit Suri. His other films include Madhur Bhandarkar directed ‘Traffic Signal’, ‘Dhol’ and ‘Superstar’. Kunal is now all set to act in an English Bollywood movie ‘When Harry Tried to Marry’ which will be directed by Nayan Pandrai.

Susmita Sen

Susmita Sen: gorgeous beauty !
The first woman from India to win the prestigious Miss Universe pageant was Sushmita Sen, also a popular actress of the Indian film industry. She was born on the 19th of November, 1975, in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. Sushmita Sen is the perfect example of beauty with brains. In the year 1994, after winning the Miss India contest which also had the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as one of its contestants. Sushmita went to represent India in the Miss Universe contest and was successful in winning the pageant, which was held in Manila, Philippines.

Susmita Sen was born to a Bengali family and her father Shubeer Sen is a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander, while her mother Subhra Sen has worked as a fashion and jewelry artist. Sushmita Sen is a single mother as she has adopted a girl child in the year 2000. Her debut movie was ‘Dastak’, where she played the role of a star who is a victim of stalker. The film did not fare well at the box office and her first hit is ‘Biwi No.1’ which was directed by David Dhawan and had Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Tabu. This film fetched her first award ‘Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award in 1999. By far, her biggest hit is ‘Main Hoon Na’ which came in the year 2004 is Farah Khan directorial debut. Susmita Sen was paired opposite Shah Rukh Khan. Her other films include ‘Main Aisa Hi Hoon’, ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Hiya’, ‘Zindeggi Rocks’ ‘Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag’.

Lara Dutta

Lara the dusky Dutta !
This Bollywood beauty with brains, Lara Dutta, was born on 6th April, 1978 in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. In 1981, her family had moved to Bangalore where she completed her schooling from St. Francis Xavier Girl’s High School. Lara Dutta has done her graduation in Economics from Bombay University at Bangalore. Her father was the Wing Commander and her mother is of British origin. In 1997, Lara won the Gladrags modeling competition, which won her the right to be the first representative at the 1997 Miss International pageant. In 2000 Lara Dutta became the second Indian after Sushmita Sen to win the crown of Miss Universe held at Cyprus.

This winning crown led Lara Dutta to get appointed as a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador in 2001. This prestigious award gave her the opportunity to get offers from several Bollywood moviemakers. Her first on screen appearance was in the movie ‘Andaaz; in 2003 which also starred Akshay Kumar and Priyanka Chopra. The film became a super hit of the year and earned Lara Dutt her first award ever ‘Filmfare Best Female Debut Award’. She was appreciated for her role in the movie. After ‘Andaaz’ came a bucketful of other movies which include ‘Kaal’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Maasti’ and many others.
