Youth icon: Denims

Denims have almost reached an iconic status amongst the youngsters and it will be really difficult to point the time of exact evolution of the outfit called “jeans” into a youth icon. Jeans have remained constant though its fashion forms have changed. It is perhaps one of the most versatile materials that have never faded into oblivion in spite of the mushrooming of different materials and attires. Denim is almost an object of worship all across the world irrespective of religion, nationality or sex for that matter. Denim has been conceptualized by fashion designers and worshippers all around the world in the form of skin tight jeans, shrugs, minis, micros, pedal pushers, jackets and many more.
After many a research, today the world can almost wear more than a hundred kinds of jeans fabrics like stretch denim, ramie cotton denim, and poly denim, chemical denim washes and mechanical denim washes.
The different styles available in jeans make it all the more appealing. The trend that has caught on like fire with people all over the world is skinny jeans. Trendy girls love to wear skinny jeans combined with high heeled pump shoes and love to flaunt their figures. Skinny jeans are best avoided for plus sized women as they stick to your body.

Premium jeans cannot be afforded by all and sundry as they are première designer jeans. Skinny flares also caught on like wild fire not very long ago when Mrs.Beckham was seen sporting a pair.

Shilpa Shetty: Indian Queen

Born on July 8,1975, Shilpa Shetty is an actor of the popular Hindi films and is also a model. At the age of 16, Shilpa stared her career as a model for Limca. In the year 1993, she made her debut with the movie ‘Baazigar’ which was directed by Abbas-Mastan. The film was a huge hit; it starred Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol in the leads. Though Shilpa played the role of a supporting actress, her performance was well appreciated.

Her first film where she played the lead role was ‘Aag’ which came in the year 1994. Shilpa has acted in as many as fifty films in Hindi Tamil, Telugu and Kannada language. In the year 2000, came ‘Dhaadkan’ which had Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty in the lead role. In this film, Shilpa had done a commendable role. ‘Phir Milenege’ which was released in 2004, Shilpa portrayed a AIDS affected patient for which she won many accolades.

Her younger sister Shamita Shetty is also in films and both of them have starred together in the movie ‘Fareb’. Shilpa is more famous for her dancing skills and her well-maintained body. Shilpa Shetty claimed to fame when she won the much controversial ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, a reality TV show that comes on British television. Shilpa has appeared in the multi-starrer movie ‘Life in a Metro’ which was released in 2007. The famous Anurag Basu directed this movie. Shilpa’s performance in the movie received positive reviews thus reestablishing her place in Bollywood.

Actor-Director Aamir Khan

One of the most talented and versatile actors of the Indian film industry in the recent years is Aamir Khan. He appeared in front camera for the first time with the film ‘Yaadon Ki Barat’ in 1973, it was directed by his uncle Nasir Hussain and Aamir appeared as a child actor in the film. Aamir’s father TAhir Hussian is a producer and his brother Faisal Khan is also an actor. Both of them have acted together in the film ‘Mela’. Aamir received his first commercial success with his cousin Mansoor Khan’s film ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ in 1988; this was his debut film and was paired opposite the then newcomer Juhi Chawla. The film fetched him ‘Filmfare Best Male Debut Award’.

Aamir Khan received his first Filmfare award in the best actor category in 1997, for the film ‘Raja Hindustani’. Aamir has given the audiences some of the memorable films of al times like ‘Lagaan’ , ‘Dil Chata Hai’ , ‘Rang De Basanti’ and few more. His other commendable films are ‘Dil’, ‘Hum Hai Rahi Pyaar Ke’ , ‘Rangeela’ , ‘Ghulam’ , ‘Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikhandar’ and many more. For the periodic film ‘Lagaan’ which was produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Asutosh Gowariakar, Aamir won his ‘National Award’ for the best actor. ‘Lagaan’ was the third Hindi language film to be nominated for the ‘Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film’. Aamir Khan turned a director with the film ‘Taare Zameen par’ which was released in 2007 and was a huge hit.

Sanjay Dutt : Mr Munna Bhai

Sanjay Dutt, the son of the veteran actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis is one of the most successful and loved actors of the Indian film industry. Sanjay made his first appearance in film at the age of 12 as ‘qawali’ singer in his father’s film ‘Reshma Aur Shera’. He was born on 29th July in 1959 and started acting in the 1980s. Sanjay Dutt’s first release was ‘Rocky’ in the year 1981 which was directed by his father Sunil Dutt and was paired opposite Tina Munim. He is one actor of Bollywood who has gone through lots of ups and downs in his personal and professional life. Nevertheless Sanjay Dutt has given his best performance in some of the most noted films of all times.

The films where his performance was the best are ‘Vaastav: The Reality’ which came in 1999, ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S’ , ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’, ‘Shootout At Lokahndwala’, ‘Parineeta’ and many more. Sanjay Dutt has appeared in more than fifty films and he has done both action films and comedy films. The film ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S. which was directed by Rajkumar Hirani took Sanjay’s acting to new heights. The film dealt about a gangster played by Sanjay who is set out to fulfill his father’s dream of becoming a doctor. The character of his father was played by his own father Sunil Dutt. The film was a huge hit and its sequel ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ which came in 2006 was also successful at the box office. This film revived Mahtma Gandhi who is long forgotten by his people. Jimmy Shergill

Jasjit Shergill popularly known as Jimmy is an actor who comes in Indian movies. Jimmy hails form Punjab and was born on 3rd December 1970. Jimmy was a student of Hindu College in Delhi. Before making his debut in Bollywood movies, Jimmy had featured in music videos and the most popular was ‘Woh Kaun Thi’ sung by singer Jojo. His debut film was the much acclaimed film ‘Maachis’ which was directed by the critically acclaimed filmmaker Gulzar. Though Jimmy had a little role in the film he had portrayed it very well. Jimmy shot to fame with the 2000 release film ‘Mohabbatein’. The movie was produced under the Yahs Raj banner and was directed by the famous Aditya Chopra. He starred along with many new comers and also Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Jimmy Shergill has taken his acting course at Roshan Taneja. Jimmy can be considered as one of the under-rated actors of Bollywood. This hard working actors has many memorable film in his kitty, some of which are ‘Haasil’ which came in 2003 and was directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and also had Irrfan Khan who played a negative role, ‘Yahaan’ directed by Shoojit Sarkar was based in Kashmir and here Jimmy played an army man. Some of his recent roles in the movies like ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’ ,’Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘Eklavya’ are well appreciated. Jimmy Shergill has also worked in Punjabi movies and those include ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’ and the recent movie, ‘Mannat’. Arbaaz Khan

Arbaaz Khan, the younger brother of film star Salman Khan is an actor who comes in Indian movies. Arbaaz was born in Mumbai on 4th August in the year 1967. Arbaaz Khan hails from a family, which has been in the Indian film industry for years. He is the son of the famous scriptwriter Salim Khan. In the year 1996, Arbaaz made his debut in films with the film ‘Darrar’, he shared his screen space with noted actors like Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor. Arbaaz Khan gave a brilliant negative performance for which he received the ‘Filmfare Best Villain Award. This 5’ 10 actor has appeared in many films but most of his films as solo actor did not fare well. Arbaaz is a fitness freak who maintains a healthy diet to remain fit. His wife Malliaka Arora Khan is well known item dancer of Bollywood. He has appeared onscreen with his elder brother Salman Khan in films like ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ in 1998 and ‘Garv : Pride and Honour’ in 2004 and ‘Hello Brother’ in 1999. In the film ‘Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya’ , Arbaaz played the elder brother of the female lead Kajol, who was paired opposite Salman Khan. His performance as an angry and tough brother was well received. In the film ‘Qayamat : City Under Threat’ , Arbaaz Khan again played a negative character which was successful at the box office. His other note worthy releases are ‘Hulchul’, ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’ , ‘Malamaal Weekly’ and ‘Bhagam Bhag’.

Sohail Khan

The younger brother of Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, started his career as a film producer and director and then he landed in acting in movies. Sohail was born on December 20, 1970 to a family who has been connected with the film industry for generations. Salim Khan who is Sohail’s father is a successful scriptwriter and his stepmother who is Helen is a popular dancer of yesteryear. His elder brothers Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan are popular Bollywood actors. He made his directorial debut with the film ‘Auzaar’ in 1997, which had his brother Salman Khan in the lead. In the year 1998, Sohail directed his both elder brothers Salman and Arbaaz in the movie ‘Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya’ and in 1999 ‘Hello Brother’. Sohail’s first movie as a leading actor was ‘Maine DIl Tuhjko Diya’ which was released in 2002. The film was directed, produced and written by him. The film was big box office failure. In fact most of Sohail’s movies have remained box office failures. His first hit was ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ in the year 2005 with brother Salman. Here he played the supporting actor and was paired opposite Katrina Kaif. Sohail has also written and produced the multi-starrer ‘Fight Club- Members Only’ which did not fare well at the box office. The film ‘Aryan’ which was based on boxing had a delayed release, his performance in the film was well received. His 2007 release was ‘Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love’. Sohail Khan produced ‘Partner’ which was huge box office hit.
