This Maharastrian actress was born on February 4, 1974 and a popular awards winning actress of Bollywood. She started her career as a child artist. The films where she has appeared as a child artist are many but she mostly known as the child ‘Pinky’ in Shekhar Kapoor’s ‘Masoom’ which is an adaptation of Erich Segal’s ‘Man, Woman and Child’. Her first film as an adult was ‘Bade Ghar Ki Beti’ which was released in the year 1989. Her collaboration with the famous filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma has given some memorable films of the recent times.
Her first film under Ram Gopal Verma’s direction was ‘Antham’ which was in Telegu, later it was dubbed as ‘Drohi’ in Hindi which was released in 1992. The film ‘Rangeela’ which was released in 1995 under the direction of Ram Gopal Verma took Urmila Matondkar’s career to new great heights. In this film Urmila shared her screen space with Aamir Khan and Jackie Shroff. Her other films under the Ram Gopal Verma’s direction include ‘Daud’ , ‘Satya’, ‘Kaun’ , ‘Mast’ , ‘Jungle’ , ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’ , ‘Bhoot’ and more. Urmila’s performance in ‘Pyar Tune Kya Kiya’ as an obsessive lover was very much appreciated and so was her performance as the ghost possessed woman in the film ‘Bhoot. She has worked in the critically acclaimed movie ‘Pinjar’ and one directed by Khalid Mohammad ‘Tehzeeb’ along with Shabana Azmi.
